#planningfromhome- Where have all the flowers gone?

We recently popped into Bouquet Boutique, a super cool flower studio in the heart of Brisbane, to chat to owner and florist of 15 years, Geraldine Hore. Since COVID-19 hit in mid March, Geraldine’s shop has never been busier sending flowers, not hugs, all over town.

“We are so grateful to have the shop still running bringing some normality into life. It has been a very positive experience for all the businesses in our little village to be able to support each other at this time.” says Geraldine.

Having fresh flowers in your home is not only lovely but in times like this can be beneficial in increasing our mental well being and mood levels.

When it comes to your wedding flowers unfortunately it will not be business as usual for a long time to come. The international travel bans have meant florists are no longer able to source exotic flowers from all over the world. We now need to rely on our local growers, which will inturn put a massive strain on supply and price accordingly. Geraldine says we should be expecting an increase up to 30% on both local and domestic flowers.

So what is a Bride to do? Well Geraldine suggests chatting to your florist one-on–one about ways to adapt your floral design. Perhaps choosing seasonal flowers and adding in more greenery and foliage to your look. At white+white, we turn to our dream team of florists for advice and design ideas when creating our styling proposals. They are experts in their field and are instrumental in bringing our ideas to life.

While weddings and events are put on pause for the moment Geraldine has been loving getting back into yoga (did you know she is also a qualified yoga instructor) and taking long walks, re-connecting with nature.
