French Twist

We recently chatted to our amazing Styling gal, Lisa about the inspiration behind our Summer shoot at Pearl Café …

One of our most favorite weekend pursuits is perusing the Powerhouse farmers’ markets in sweet anticipation of unearthing a fabulous find from the infamous Travelling Wares caravan. Kara Rosenlund, its gorgeous owner, is an interior styling magician, with her magical pizazz that pulls you in to see what she has to offer. It was whilst we were brainstorming that we remembered she had a set of blue and white vintage plates piled high on her stall. At that very moment, everything came together for the summer shoot, with the plates setting the scene for a concept that was tough yet delicate all at once. Pearl Café was the perfect urban location, with its plethora of textures and moody colours to offset these serene plates with aplomb.

It was on a lazy summer Sunday that we sat patiently on the porch step wondering what to place with these beauties to really do them justice and it was whilst flicking through Vogue Living, our eyes froze on a French Chateau that complimented the dreamy blue and white floral pattern perfectly. And so it was. Crystal stem glassware, heavy crushed linen, ornate silver cutlery and fluffy blue and white hydrangeas were brought in to bring the concept to life. Clashing magnificently against the peeling, distressed walls of Pearl café, the concept shouldn’t have worked but it did, with a raw luxe aesthetic radiating like the summer sun.
